Carriage Update.

We have bitten the bullet as regards the carriage windows and condensation and have just completed installing double glazed units in all the fixed windows. The original aluminium frame sliding windows remain as before so hopefully we have retained the character of the original while vastly improving the heat retention in the winter and eliminating the condensation problem which previously existed.

As last years guests know we have a new dog walk down the old railway line to the east of the property as far as the river. We are now looking into getting access to the old line west of the property. If we can do this, with a lot of work we can create access to over a mile of extra railway line walking.

The carriage now has a fold away table and four chairs as well as the stools for the breakfast bar to make eating in more enjoyable.

Fantastic place for a family holiday. The carriage is beautifully converted and very well equipped. The novelty really appealed to us all (the carriage is even on tracks) and there's lots of nice outdoor space around it. The breakfasts were perfect and we felt very well looked after, while still very much having our own space. Greatly recommended!

British rail would never have foundered if there sleepers had been this good! The conversion is stunning, and fears we had about space limitations were groundless. Very well thought out conversion, would be an exciting venue for kids and well off road so safe. Showers, heating etc all worked well and hotelier is delightful. Will be using again for the next "Quirky" weekend!

An unmissable experience - a fantastic place to stay
The converted train carriage at the Old Station House, Castle Douglas is a really unique place to stay and I would recommend this to anyone - whether travelling as a group of friends, a couple or as a family. The accomodation has definately been thought about from a comfort perspective - with ample room for everyone yet providing a really cosy and warm place to rest after a day or two exploring the local areas of interest. The decor throughout is very tasteful and knocks spots off hotels and guest houses twice as expensive. The owners are very welcoming and make the overall experience a very pleasant one. Highly recommended.
